I love Switzerland and just about everything that comes with it. I’ve lived here for ages now and it still fascinates me. There are, however, subtle differences to what was normal for me when I was growing up in the States, so what’s it like living in Switzerland? Exotic? A little. But let me start at the beginning, just so you know more or less where I’m coming from.
My name is Lisa, I was born in Florida and am an east coast babe through and through. Our family moved a lot, mostly up and down the east coast; never lived in one place longer than 7 or 8 years. You’d think that my dad was a criminal being sought after by the police or something, but that WAS NOT the case, nothing that exciting, dad worked for an oil company so we moved to where the job was. I grew up in a wonderful family in middle class suburbia.
Maybe it was chance, maybe good karma or maybe just plain luck, but whatever it was, I was in the right place at the right time in my junior year of high school where I met the foreign exchange student. You guessed it, he was from Switzerland and, yes, we fell in love. After high school I went to college and he went back to Switzerland and finished his studies. Just to let you know how long ago this was, there was neither e-mail nor Facebook! We kept in contact with snail mail (a week travelling time – one way) and on holidays we called (10 – 15 cents per SECOND!!). After 5 years of that we got married, I moved to Switzerland and the great adventure begins.
This blog will give you a close-up and personal look at how I see Switzerland. Some of which will be obvious if you ever visit, some will be background information that will help you understand the Swiss mentality, clichés and what my Switzerland looks like. The posts are in no paticular order, they bounce around a lot so you can pick and choose what you want to read.
Enjoy your stay.
